Microsoft have just announced that they are aware of the first recorded incident of an Internet Explorer 8 user actually using the browser's "In-Private Browsing" feature for buying his wife an anniversary present.
Internet Explorer 8 was launched in March 2009 and features a search mode that allows the user to browse the internet without storing any history, form data, cookies, usernames or passwords. The television advertisment featured a man shopping for his wife's wedding anniversary present, when she returned unexpectedly. The In-Private Browser allowed him to keep his surprise a secret. This ran counter to what it was actually used for by everyone else. Microsoft said at the time "We wanted to call it Spank-Mode but the marketing guys didn't recommend it"
The man at the centre of all this said yesterday "Shhh! She'll bloody hear you!"
