MINNEAPOLIS (FMLiveWire) --Astronomers have discovered a tremendous nothingness out in the universe, which has them worried and wondering about what is not there.
The cosmic void has no stars, no galaxies, no black holes, no quasars, and not even any dark or white matter. It is 1 billion light years across of nothingness. In fact, it has no somethingness there at all. That's an expanse of nearly 6 billion trillion miles of nothingness, the University of Minneapolis team announced Thursday.
"That is a pretty big nothingness, far larger than we've found anywhere before," said Minneapolis astronomer Norman Nudnick, who led the team. "It is a really big surprise too since usually there is some somethingness hanging around in that much nothingness, but in this case it is not."
"It has us very worried. I mean, what happened to all that usual space crap there? Usually there is a lot of somethingness everywhere, but in that nothingness there there is no somethingness anywhere."
Nudnick found the big nothingness while examining a deep space survey from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory which takes radio emission pictures of big swathes of the universe. But one massive area he noticed was missing 99 percent of the usual matter and somethingness, which qualified it as a nothingness, he said. It also lacks microwave ovens and burgers and any microwave radiation, he noted.
The huge nothingness is about 5 to 10 billion light years away from Earth.
"It looks like something might have wiped out all the somethingness there, leaving all that awful nothingness, and this has to be taken really seriously," Nudnick added.
"All that nothingness sort of reminds us of all those idiot Republicans in Washington, DC with their brainless warmongering oil-grabbing policies," Nudnick concluded.
"Maybe some politicians in deep space started a war and built a huge bomb and detonated it and that created all that nothingness by destroying all the somethingness. We will investigate this business further in the coming months."
