As a word, is “Fuck” a GOAT, or Greatest Of All Time? Is it the greatest word in the English language?
To non-native speakers of the language, the following sentence is technically correct, just weird and confusing: “The fucking fucker fucked the fucking fucker.”
In that, you can see ‘fuck’ as a noun, verb, adjective, with the capability to become even more. The word of Zen – it becomes loved by all by being hated. It is a chaleon – able to become any type of word you need, and will also be effective in its communication of your meaning, emotion, and sentiment.
Have you heard the word “sesquipedalian”? No? But even if you don’t use the word ‘fuck’, you’ve still heard of it, yes?
And to strengthen the argument that ‘fuck’ is the greatest of all words, so many people do use it, all the time, even when they’re alone. Why is this? Because it offers the speaker freedom.
And that is truly what makes it a great word. When we swear we are free, we are ourselves. When we say it, we are not speaking for the boss, the king, the pope, or all the critics who attack our words and behaviour – we simply say fuck! And we are immediately free.
And free to do so, if you live in the right country. Which is why so many dictatorships don’t like swear words. They only want pretty words to soothe their ugly ears. Pretty words are lies; ugly words can only tell the truth. A word can send you to jail … so then how is there freedom of speech?
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”, is something said by the schoolmarms and priests and officious suits who try to govern our world with their tongues tied by restrained words.
And when they go home, do they say, “Guess what the fuck I had to fuckin’ deal with today!”
For fuck’s sake … enjoy a good fuck, you fucking fuckers, now fuck off!
