UN peacekeepers are to be called in to smooth over the row brewing at the X Factor following judge Cheryl Cole's indecision at the weekend.
After a nail-biting sing-off, Cheryl refused to vote against Treyc or Katie Waissel causing a storm of complaints from viewers.
"This is a case for Ofcom," Tweeted one fan, "What a cop out," said another.
But another insisted: "Get over it - there are far worse things in the world than Cheryl not voting."
However, authorities watching the situation are not so sure there are worse things in the world. Lights burned late into the night in Whitehall and Downing Street as the Government struggled to come to grips with the situation.
"This is one of those things the coalition government can't be seen to be taking sides on," said a source close to Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister.
"So, William Haig's been on to our man at the UN and our team there is putting together a proposal to have a peacekeeping task force brought in.
"We can't say at this stage just how long the force will be kept on station, but I can't see the situation calming down significantly for at least six months."
