Sid Vicious is to appear in an advert for French sponges. He follows fellow punk legends Johnny Rotten and Iggy Pop in selling out his punk anarchist credentials in order to make a quick profit. In Sid's case however, it is his family who have made the decision to sell out.
Advertising agency StarScrew claim that Sid's family have given permission for his body to be exhumed, fitted with hydraulic pumps and re-animated as a robot for the filming of the advert. The advert is for sponges made in the French town of Nancy. In the advert, Sid says "I'd kill for a Nancy Sponge." There are also shots of Mr Vicious spinning in his grave in the controversial advert.
Malcolm MacLaren, manager of the Sex Pistols, is said to be annoyed. "I created this band, they're my puppets. How dare these ad men try to control them!"
