New papers released today by the New Musical Express have revealed the shocking truth behind what happened to John Denver prior to his death in 1997.
It would appear that in 1995, he had an argument with his record label over royalties, and as a result of not gaining a satisfactory conclusion, John Denver split up.
His teeth and glasses joined Capitol Records, his guitar and check shirts joined A&M, and his cowboy boots and jeans went to CBS.
His agent, Sioux Esidal, explains:
"John had enough of the in-fighting between his record label, production team and concert promotors. He had threatened as long ago as 1993 that if things didn't settle down, he would split up.
"At the time, his song 'Annie' was the most popular record ever for cremations in Canada, and 'Take me home country Road' was number 1 in the Polynesian islands of Tuvalu for almost three and a half years, mainly because they haven't really got any country roads there."
John Denver was sorely missed in 1980.......by Mark David Chapman who went and shot John Lennon instead.
