An Ohio woman gave birth this morning to a full-size Standard Poodle. The odd birth occurred at a Cleveland hospital where a team of doctors and veterinarians worked for several hours on Mildred Stroebel who was accompanied in the delivery room by her husband Malcolm. The husband, a pilot for United Airlines, said:
"I was away for an extended period last spring and left my wife at home to take care of her large kennel of Poodles. I'm not quite sure what happened while I was away, but I think I'm beginning to put the pieces together!"
Just after delivering a healthy 52-pound Poodle, an ecstatic Mildred Strobel told several nurses that the birth was quite unlike that of her two previous children. "I could feel a kind of pawing when the doctor told me to push... and the next thing I knew, there was a lot of barking and commotion!"
The Cleveland Humane Society is looking into the whole matter and is expected to make an early ruling on who will raise the new pup.
