The popular game/anime series Pokemon has come under fire for one of its moves being deemed homophobic.
One of the many moves a pokemon can learn is called "Attract". It is used in battles and by wild pokemon to cause the rival to become infatuated with the pokemon using the move rendering the opposing pokemon unable to attack. A very useful move indeed, this move can be seen in Pokemon Black and White by Ash's pokemon Snivey.
However, this move only works on pokemon of the opposite sex, which has brought it under fire by equality activists across the United States, calling the move "homophobic" and "promoting the heteroseual lifestyle as the only correct lifestyle to young children."
"Pokemon are loved by children everywhere and for these types of moves to be marketed to them is a direct blow to the cause of equality between heterosexual and homosexual lifestyles. The move attract works on the premises of the other pokemon falling in love with the pokemon who invokes the move. With the move only working between male and female pokemon, it suggests to children that the only love that actually works is a heterosexual type."
