I was musing over the past, and recalled in 2006 when I allowed Sue Lawley to have me as a guest on the Desert Island Disc programme. I said: "When I become Prime Minister, I would be the first Conservative Old Etonian to do so since Sir Alec Douglas-Home in 1963" Words of wisdom from me there!

Bob Dylan, Benny Hill, Radiohead and Pink Floyd were amongst my records chosen,

Strange but when Clegg was on the programme, he picked Radiohead as well.

My luxury item was a case of Glenfiddich single-malt Whisky.
