Column heading in the Star newspaper the other day:

Mayor Boris Johnson has had an excellent summer. His speeches to the Olympics crowds nudged him toward a very good shot at leading his party one day. Other contenders have noticed his star quality and are more than willing to stir things up.

Sounds like the Star is the one stirring things up... mind you...
