A multi million pound drug ring that used a convent outside Milan has been smashed by Italian police.
Cocaine smugglers posing as pilgrims carried stashes in their prayer books in an operation organised by the convent's South American janitor.
The nuns were "completely unaware" of what he was up to, police said, although they did notice that, over the last few months, the average age of pilgrims had "seemed to drop considerably and.....some of the prayer books seemed to be a bit lumpy".
The sisters' suspicions were also not aroused by the sight of the janitor recently turning up for work in a 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo.
