China Bans Happiness

BEIJING - As Britain undertakes a happiness index level, China will do the opposite.

"Smiling is against glorious nation of China!" said propaganda minister Lou Ser-Gai. "It is immoral western filth! Happiness against productiveness of China!"

Like many of the other civil liberties curtailed by the government, any form of happiness, including smiling, laughing, giggling, love, excitement, and various other things, will be punishable by execution, as per usual.

Many political people in America have turned a blind eye to the harsh nature of the Happiness Prevention Act. However, there are still people against it.

"It was terrible," said a refugee. "I laughed at this guy falling over in the street... and then everyone turned, stunned. The police were just about to get me, but I managed to stowaway on a private jet bound for Chicago."

Many hundreds have been 'disappeared' with hundred and thousands of photographs augmented using Soviet-style techniques to not display the 'Happy'. Public records deleted. Essentially, these people do not exist.

"That makes it hard for us," said an Amnesty International spokesman, "we can say that they're taking people away. We know. Everyone knows. But we have no proof. People are reluctant to tell us about the 'Happy'."

The rules also apply to anyone visiting the country.

Only just today, five BBC journalists, 19 Reuters journalists, 200 tourists, and 16 diplomats have not returned to their country of origin, stating 'they never came into the country.'

As of press time, China also banned the use of foreign languages.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
