Baghdad, Iraq- The World Tourism Organization has rated Iraq #1 among tourist destinations this year, ousting out tourism hot spots such as Cancun, the Bahamas, Hawaii, and Pakistan. The rating has said to be because of the friendly locals, the gorgeous sunrises, and the magnificent fireworks that have been going on there in preparation for the 4th of July holiday weekend.

"The climate is wonderful, and just yesterday they had a huge fireworks display in Baghdad. It was beautiful," says Iraqi Tourism Director Hajaad-Rajim Infadeli, "all of the locals here gladly greet tourists with open arms. I'm proud to live in such a wonderful country."

Statistics show that thousands and thousands of tourists from the U.S. have been flocking into the lush land that is Iraq for the past 2 years. And the numbers steadily increase each week. Among the destinations tourists usually visit are the historical landmarks of palaces and mosques, along with the hundreds of oil fields that locals will gladly set on fire to give tourists a feel for the Iraqi lifestyle. We asked one tourist just what brought him to this exotic vacation destination, "What the hell am I doing here?" asks Sgt. Walker, "I don't know what brought me hereā€¦some guy came to my school and talked to me. He knew everything about me, so I thought I could trust him." He shakes his head, "he said he'd give me $10,000 if I would come here. He knew I was poor; he waved a five dollar bill in front of my face. What else could I say?"

But some people have claimed that Iraq is not as safe as the media makes it out to be. Those damn liberals have said that at least 100,000 civilians have died in Iraq since March 2003. But U.S. and Iraqi officials say that the claim is preposterous and inaccurate. But nevertheless, the tourists don't seem to be deterred from paradise. Fellow tourist Don Rumsfield seems relaxed and unafraid of the "violence" reported in Iraq. He just sits back, sips his Pina Colada, and watches the fireworks display at the nearby shopping center in Baghdad. "Isn't democracy beautiful?" he says, leaning back in his lawn chair, "almost as beautiful as Iraq."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
