KABUL: On the eve of an international conference in Afghanistan where representatives from over 60 countries will look at ways to bring peace to the war-torn country a strange phenomenon is happening.
Just as the conference members made a peace offer to the Taliban which the militants rejected, mysterious crop circles began appearing in a myriad of poppy fields. Many superstitious locals said it was the finger of God which having writ was moving on.
Delighted young children laughed with wonder; young jihadis pulled off their suicide vests overwhelmed by this occurrence and the tinkling laughter of pretty unveiled maidens could be heard all over the once despondent country.
As the Taliban tried to round up people under threat of decapitation, more and more circles appeared. Mystified social workers say they cannot believe what is happening and the peals of laughter are the Afghan Sound of Music.
Across the border, the Pakistani Army-Mullah-Intelligence combine screeched out from the minarets that this was a "US-Israel-India conspiracy ...to wind up the Afghans to turn against Pak and deprive it from the chance to rule Afghanistan" and exhorted their militants to attack the evil-doers.
