Canberra AUSTRALIA: A sense of disbelief reverberated around Australia today as Senator Steven Fielding publicly announced that despite talking to Al Gore he was a climate change sceptic. In a rather monotone press conference Fielding stated, "I talked to Mr Gore for six hours today. And I am unconvinced that climate change is man made. And having also spoken to the American climate change experts at Shell I doubt that it even exists".
Bob Brown, leader of the Greens failed to notice the irony of his own comment, made later in the day, where he said "As an Independent, Senator Fielding, on most days the Australian Government doubts that you even exist".
Appropriately, neither the story, nor a picture of Gore soliciting an undercover police officer, were reported by the world's major news agencies.
