A leopard who was feeling a bit peckish made a serious error of judgement yesterday when he ventured from his forest home into the outskirts of Indian city Jyotikuchi in Guwahati, north-east India, hunting for a snack.
Upon being spotted by locals, the hungry leopard started to get a bit nervous as a mob quickly gathered and started giving him some serious grief, lobbing rocks at him and calling him names.
The Department For Leopard Control were at the scene quickly, and a tranquiliser dart was fired at him, hitting him in the neck, slowing him down and making him feel kind of mellow.
At which point, several young men started hitting the unfortunate beast with sticks, knocking several spots off him.
The leopard, who was seriously injured and humiliated in the attack was eventually rescued by Indian Forestry Department officers and taken to a local zoo.
He is said to be making a steady recovery and making plans to 'go out for an Indian' at some point in the future.
More as we get it.
