Portuguese police have today announced their intention to drop the Madeleine McCann case before July 14, which is when the official secrecy period covering the investigation ends.

Officers have announced through several newspapers that as they have found no evidence whatsoever and have not moved forward in the investigation since the girls disappearance over a year ago they have no alternative but to conclude that Madeleine did not exist.

The Police chief in charge today commented that cases where parents falsely claim their child was abducted are not uncommon, but cases where they actually invent the abducted child too are extremely rare. Due to this his force cannot be held responsible for not finding "Madeleine."

When asked why he hadn't lifted the arguido suspect status on "Madeleines" parents, the officer stated that they are still suspects and it was not entirely impossible that they had done away with their ficticious daughter. He claimed the photo's and videos claiming to be "Madeleine" are "probably faked."

The officer went on to say that, in the words of the great British detective Sherlock Holmes whose famous works the Portugese police frequently consulted during the case,"When you have ruled out everything else, you are left with the truth, Watson."

Posters advertising Praia da Luz as a family holiday resort will be submitted worldwide from July 14th with the slogan,"Come to Praia da Luz. This is a safe little haven. There is no uncaught serial killer here. That was just lies."
