Sniffer dogs can't tell the difference between a TV stage set and a real grave, can they?

St Martin, Jersey - (Reuterus & Ass Mess): The church has said that gravesites next to the Haut de la Garenne house of horrors are probably just props from the BBC's 1980s hit police series Bergerac 'along with all the 200+ so-called witnesses' who'd been paid as extras for the long-running show.

"All this could be false memory syndrome rooted in the show's 84 episodes," an ecclesiastical source commented today.

"Of course you can't blame people for getting their facts muddled after all these years, can you."

The BBC police series ran from 1981 to 1991 and featured a wing of the grisly children's home as police station premises.

"That punishment room in the basement - that was from episode numbers 41 to 43," a production source added today.

"Looks so realistic, doesn't it?

"The fact is when the show's third series was over we ran out of money for post-production work.

"So rather than dismantle the stage set in the cellars, we just decided to brick them up and thought no more about it!"

The investigation continues.
