The prelate had started campaigning for a Vatican Gay Pride march next Easter after coming out on an Italian TV interview.
He had told Rome audiences that a recently discovered pre-Constantinian New Testament lying hidden for centuries under the Vatican's crypts was unequivocal about the Messiah and his apostles being gay.
"He was crucified for his beliefs, no doubt about it," the priest apparently said.
Pope Ratzinger was furious when his spies found out about the incident and ordered an immediate suspension from regular duties.
