The work of Qatari Freepers?

Doha, Qatar - (Rioters): They're the cyberspace equivalent of graffiti vandals and they originate in the tiny gas-rich Gulf emirate of Qatar. And now online encyclopaedia Wikipedia has banned them from ever darkening its portals again after a protracted spate of cyber-terror on its reference pages was traced to a single IP in the Doha region believed to be the headquarters of the Spammers Anonymous branch of Al's Jazz Era TV, which is based nearby.

The move comes after a number of entries about the USA, the sex industry and the birthday of the President Bush were sabotaged leading to a trail of a breakaway faction of renegade former bloggers from the right-wing Free Republic site, commonly known as Freepers.

Some web sources claim a financial connection to notable US assholes including former DC lobbyist and jailbird Jack Abramoff, Mark 'Folie a Deux' Foley and Pastor Ted Haggard, although no specific proof is currently available.

The tough stance taken by the online reference site is a grim reminder of just how desperate some wing-nut interest groups are at the moment to promote their revisionist slant on histery pre-November 2000 events centered on the election to the White House.
