A Halloween event 'organised' by a Bangkok school was a spectacular flop, according to one of the people involved.
The evening of 31 October is traditionally one of witches, pumpkins, skulls, skeletons, bats, black cats, spiders and ghosts, and that's what one teacher was asked to come up with for a Halloween display at his school. Card, paper, paint, colored pencils, scissors and glue would be needed, as well as some string to dangle the spiders.
No budget was to be provided.
The teacher, being from Yorkshire, where they "don't do owt for nowt", told his school Director that, if the work had to be done outside his normal working hours - and, therefore, unpaid - and also, out of the teacher's own pocket, it wasn't going to be much of a success.
This was a not-too-thinly-veiled way of telling him to:
"Get fucked"
The teacher found some card, and commandeered some colored pencils and pens, glue and scissors from 'somewhere', gave these to the 12-year-old students, explaining that they should make some things for a Halloween display. He said he would bring a black sheet to cover the window and make the room 'dark', and left them to it.
The next time he saw the students was on 31 October. They had several pictures of pumpkins, witches, spiders, bats and ghosts which were stuck on the walls and door, and the black sheet was draped over the window. Other students then visited the room to be scared by the surroundings, but there was an eerie silence as they perused the pathetic painted pictures.
Someone said:
"Trick or Treat?"
But neither of these were available.
