Prince fans saddened by the death of the artist purchased the first million of the new Prince postage stamps within four hours after they went on sale. Demand for the purple postage slowed down the official USPS website even hours after all available stamps had been sold.
Sean Callahan, spokesman for the USPS told The Spoof, "Nothing compares to this except when the Elvis stamps went on sale. The Prince stamps are already one of the most popular sets we've ever produced."
It's a great deal for the Post Office. as half of the stamps sold will likely never be used for mail.
We spoke to one fan, Julie Durham, who has already used some of her stamps.
"I'm throwing a party on June 7, which would have been his birthday. I used the stamps on some homemade postcards to invite my friends to the remembrance."
Not all fans are happy with the stamps, one design is said to look more like Weird Al Yankovic trying to look like Prince.
Others, perhaps not such big fans of the artist, were already selling their stamps: We found several sets for sale on eBay at $40, eight times the original price for a book of ten stamps.
