WASHINGTON, DC - President Barack Obama announced his specific plans today to combat the Islamic State militant group.
In a widely anticipated, 933-minute speech, Obama said he would authorize 27 strikes on ISIL positions on Thursday, 21 strikes on Friday and 16 strikes on Friday. His targets include Mosul, Erbil and Haditha. He reiterated that the United States would never comment on strategy, tactics or timetables.
Obama repeated that there would not be "boots on the ground", but if there were, he would authorize 873 troops to be deployed in Baghdad on Saturday or Sunday at 6:30 pm EST.
Obama asked Congress to authorize $500 trillion to train anyone who wants to join the fight against the Islamist Extremist Terrorists. Later, Obama apologized for not being sensitive in his use of words.
