Pyongyang NK: North Korea's much publicized satellite launch ended quickly in failure by not achieving orbit, greatly embarrassing the country's new leader Kim Jong Un.
The three stage Unha-3 rocket and its weather satellite payload crashed into the Yellow Sea. A rare public acknowledgment of failure was later released by North Korea's state media.
North Korea's state media has just reversed their earlier statement, based on a high ranking government official indicating the rocket technicians did not know the real purpose of the rocket's payload. The payload was not a weather satellite, but a remote underwater vehicle. This unit will now be studying sea life on the ocean bottom!
