A German man has sold the rights to his murder to a television production company. The murder will take place later this year in Switzerland under the country's new euthanasia laws.
Herman Funster, 47, of Munich, appears physically fit but is actually suffering from a slow-acting, terminal form of cancer. He wanted to travel to Switzerland to end his life, but decided to "jazz it up" a bit by introducing a game show element.
Mr Funster has asked German members of the public to volunteer to be his "killer" and to come up with original methods of execution for him. He will audition them in an X-Factor style 10 part TV show to be broadcast on German television.
In order to prevent any irregularities, Mr Funster and his killer will both have to be certified sane, and the final death will need to be supervised by two doctors. Funster dismisses this as "mere bureaucracy" and hopes that he will get an exciting and original send-off.
If the format proves popular, then it is likely to be exported to other countries, including the UK. Shane Richie has already registered his interested in it, in an attempt to revive his flagging career.
