The USA is two weeks away from defaulting on its $14 trillion debt mountain, and politicians from both parties have been debating the crisis to try to find the best way out.
President Barack Obama has been deeply involved in these discussions, and believes he has finally found the solution. "It's simple," he said. "We default."
He explained that although it might sound like the worst case scenario for the US, it was actually the best. The US would be instantly debt-free, and no creditor would be able to force the US to pay up. At one point Barack Obama spoke to the US's creditors directly, and said, "You and whose army!" The US has by far the largest and most powerful army in the world.
But the largest advantage of defaulting, said President Obama, is that the US can start borrowing money again. "We'll have no debts, so we can borrow as much money as we want."
