ONTARIO, California (AP) A 10-year-old Rottweiler was arrested after neighbors reported seeing the dog sexually assaulting his owner, Ubaldo Vasquez Huizar, 39.
The Rottweiler was arrested for investigation of two counts of sexual assault on a human, according to a statement from Ontario police Detective David McBride.
Detectives learned of the alleged crimes after going to the Rottweiler's doghouse to notify him that he was required to register as a sex offender, the statement said. The dog had been convicted last December of exposing himself to an 11-year-old girl, police said.
He also was wanted on an outstanding $10,000 heartworm drug warrant.
While at the doghouse, police learned that the Rottweiler was also living inside of Huizar's home McBride's statement said.
Neighbors reported that Huizar often slept naked in the doghouse with the family dog, the statement said. They said they saw the Rottweiler sexually assault Huizar with a broom handle and his paw and heard Huizar cry in pain when he was in the doghouse, the statement said.
Neighbors also reported seeing the Rottweiler in his back yard dressed in a woman's bra and panties, dancing with a broom handle, police said.
The Rottweiler was booked at the West Valley Detention Center, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Web site.
The Inland Valley Human Society took Ubaldo Vasquez Huizar into protective custody, police said. The family might not get Huizar back if the Rottweiler is convicted of sexually assaulting him.
Studies have shown a link between abuse of humans and abuse of animals, said Martin Mersereau, manager of the domestic human abuse division of Rottweilers for the Ethical Treatment of Humans.
"A large percentage of canine sexual abusers start out abusing humans," he said.
Later that day, Mr. Huizar was transported to Ontario Medical Center where he underwent a lengthy surgery for the removal of large number of hemorrhoids, treated for an infestation of fleas, and started on a series of painful rabies shots.
In other news, pop star Michael Jackson has contacted the West Valley Detention Center and is applying to become a foster parent to the Rottweiler.
