Florida resident Daniel McDaniels was attempting to deter a skunk at his friend's house over the weekend, when he accidentally shot himself in the face.
Police said the 31-year-old was attempting to load his .22 caliber rifle after spotting the critter in the back yard, when he accidentally pulled the trigger, injuring his fingers and left cheek in the process. Manatee County Sheriff's deputies said McDaniels was unaware that the gun was already loaded.
Police say his injuries are not life-threatening, as he was alert and mobile while being taken to hospital.
The case highlights the importance of Americans' constitutional right to bear arms. Imagine if McDaniels had not had a gun: he would have had to shoot himself in the face with a cannon, which would have been far more painful.
