White House press secretary Robert Gibbs insisted on Thursday that President Barack Hussein Obama is a Christian who prays daily, responding to growing doubts about the president's religion.
Gibbs made the statement after a poll showed that 18 percent of Americans think Obama is Muslim. The survey also showed that just 34 percent said Obama is Christian, down from 48 percent who said so last year.
As Obama started his tenth vacation in three weeks, Gibbs told reporters that most Americans care more about jobs and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Burton added, "The president is obviously a Christian. He prays everyday, on his mat that faces to the East-Southeast."
