Washington DC: Al Franken is resigning his Senate seat to play Perry Mason. The show, after a hiatus of 50 years returns to the CBS Television Network this fall.
The Republican Governor of Minnesota is expected to appoint former Republican Senator Norm Coleman to fill the vacated seat.
Senator Franken said that "the Sonia Sotomayor Supreme Court confirmation hearings made me realize how much I miss the make believe world of show business!"
He continued, "I was expecting a prospective Supreme Court Associate Justice, but saw only a wise Latino woman providing lame answers to Republican and Democratic Senator's soft ball questions. The 800 pound constitutional issues Gorilla is still sitting in the hearing room."
