The 3rd annual Dunce Pride Parade was held yesterday in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Dunces from across the United States and around the world convened to celebrate dunce pride.
"We are here to say that we are dunces and we are proud", said forty-seven year old Elmer Dale Sputz, of Cornball, Mississippi. "All we want is acceptance", Sputz continued. "We are a group of people that it is still ok to discriminate against and make fun of", he said, adding that "you never see a dunce portrayed favorably in the cinema, literature, or music."
The Dunce Pride Parade kicks off National Dunce Pride Week 2009. Last year's Dunce Pride Parade was held in Austin, Texas. The inaugural parade was held in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2007.
