Seattle, WA-After a search that began nearly two years ago, a teenage girl has found her birth parents, who, in a bizarre twist of events, are the same people who adopted her 17 years earlier.
"It's just so surreal", Samantha Dickson says about the shocking discovery. "I spent countless hours online, investigating various leads and searching databases, only to find out the woman who gave birth to me was the same woman who has raised me all these years. It's all a little overwhelming right now."
Dickson had started looking for her real parents in 2007, after realizing she had nothing in common with the couple she had grown up with.
"I didn't share any of the same interests as Bob and Janet, and physically, I don't resemble either one of them. Bob is short and overweight, Janet is tall and overweight, and although I am of average height, I have a smokin' body. No one in their right mind would think I was actually related to these two."
After spending months pestering the couple to admit she wasn't their child, they finally caved in and told her she had been given up by her real parents shortly after birth. However they were not able to provide any further details about the adoption.
After two years without a lead, Dickson finally got a break in the case when she stumbled across her birth certificate after being forced to clean her room. It was then she noticed the names of her birth parents were identical to those of her adopted ones. She confronted the Dicksons with the evidence who then told her the truth.
"I just don't get it. If I wasn't adopted, why would this woman say I was? It doesn't make sense, but then again there are some things about this whole crazy experience that will never make sense to me."
Bob and Janet declined to comment for this interview. However Dickson says that even though they are annoying and embarrassing to be seen with in public, deep down they are good people with solid values.
"Right now I am just making up for lost time, because I realize how lucky I am to have found the two people who brought me into this world. I need to make the most of this opportunity."
