NEW YORK CITY -- The New York City Police Department plans to shut down all of Manhattan during the Republic National Convention in August.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, said it is an ambitious security undertaking that will channel all "bad guys" away from the event.
Mayor Bloomberg previously said that the convention would be free to all New Yorkers.
But then, suddenly, after a coughing fit and a bad night going to the bathroom every hour, he said that his priority was to keep the city safe, and he maintained that the heightened security measure would be best.
"If you live or work in Manhattan the days the Republicans are here, stay home and off the streets because there's a convention in town."
