SAN FRANCISCO, CA - A group calling itself "The Grays" rallied today in Washington, D.C. Calling for "an immediate end to the deception that has marginalized us for years," thousands of half black - half white people from around the country marched on our nation's capital.
Demonstrators carrying large canvases and one-pound tubes of black paint and white paint mixed them on the lawn of the White House, then smudged, smeared and splattered the freshly mixed paint across the canvases. "See?" said one. "When you mix black and white, you get gray. Obama isn't black! And neither is Vanessa Williams, or Halle Berry, or even Mario Van Peebles!"
Said another, "Black people claim him [Obama] as one of their own. And white people even call him black, too. But he isn't black! Black and white make gray, (expletive deleted)!" Responses like this were typical across much of the grounds taken over by the demonstrators.
In another area, a splinter group calling itself "You Can't Take The White Out of Obama" was collecting signatures for a petition to stop the deletion of a photo from Wikipedia. Taken in the seventies, the photo shows Obama's white mother and her white father sitting with young Barack and his white half sister in front of their house. A proposal to delete the photo from Wikipedia, a popular source of information on the Web, one demonstrator says only proves that "they won't be happy until they've taken all the white out of this man," while another alleged that the proposed removal of the photo is part of an attempt to "erase Barack Obama's white history before his black victory."
The demonstrations were relatively peaceful except for a minor skirmish between "The Grays" and a small group marching with signs reading "Milk Chocolate Isn't Gray" which riot police were able to quickly contain. Other incidents included the arrest of a Mr. Motumbu Kileaii Hines for disturbing the peace. At the time of the arrest, Hines was carrying a sign reading "Hines' 57's" and wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the likeness of Tiger Woods.
