In a surprising change of policy, the United States Marine Corps, arguably the most staid and traditional of all branches of the American military services, announced today that all grooming standards are being relaxed. From now on, U.S. Marines, enlisted and officers alike, will be able to wear their hair in any style they fancy.
Not everybody is happy about the new policy, especially many Marine Corps veterans. However, the commandant of the Marine Corps defends his decision, saying that increasing individuality will help to hone the warrior ethos and will result in more unit cohesion.
