The Democrat Committee on Public Spending has issued its plans to sell parts of the Army to the fledgling Iraqi Government. The deal will turn over the 3rd Army Heavy Brigade, an undisclosed Infantry Brigade and the 101st Air Cavalry with an option on the Marine Corp.
The Committee released the details before a hushed Congress late on Friday night. The sum of $3 billion has been mooted as the initial settlement. All the equipment, personnel and communications have been bundled into a bumper package. The command structure will remain intact with senior Iraqi generals in charge.
Democrat Senator Spencer Tracy told a full house that the army had been losing money for years and it was time the country got some of its money back. The funds are coming from forty undisclosed accounts held in Switzerland. The cash originally was in the name of a Mr A. Baba but this is believed to be an alias of the Saddam brothers. Payment will be made on receipt of the armed forces and will be in one lump sum. This is a good deal for both the Iraqi and American people rejoiced Tracy. When he was asked about the morale of the troops, he was quoted as saying 'they will love it there'.
Historically the British Government offered their total forces to Iraq for the same amount but the cost of upgrading the equipment was considered too high. Although suffering a setback the offer has been made to Iran who may not be so fussy.
To reflect this downsizing of troop numbers, Fort Bragg is to be closed and its accommodation to be sold as holiday cottages. Any excess armaments will be auctioned off on EBay from the beginning of June. This could be your chance to have your own tank or M16 said an Army source. 'This is a win-win situation", said Colonel Wes Green.
