Sacramento, CA. Special to The Spoof. California's state legislature today placed financial and travel sanctions on President Donald Trump in an effort to pressure him into resigning before he is impeached.
Under the terms of the sanction legislation, no state money may be used to pay for hotel rooms, food service, or gift purchases at any Trump property within the US or overseas. Furthermore, any company doing business with any Trump facility, including Trump golf courses, will not be allowed to buy, sell or in any other way have financial dealings with the state. That includes foreign businesses or governments.
"Trump loves to impose sanctions, so let's see how he reacts when they are imposed on him," said Governor Gavin Newsom. "We intend to destroy the Trump corporate organization with sanctions. If the president wants his businesses to survive, he will promptly resign. If he doesn't, we'll do to his economy what he has threatened to do to Turkey."
At least a dozen other states are expected to pass similar legislation. Such sanctions are legal. California has placed similar economic sanctions on several states which have passed anti-abortion laws.
President Erdogan of Turkey has offered asylum to the president if he is impeached or resigns. Trump is expected to build a Tower in Ankara.
