Responding to fake news WaPo editions currently circulating in Washington, the hacker group Dark Overbored has stepped forward once again.
This time Dark Overbored argues the fake editions are the latest (hidden) establishment efforts to undo the administration of Donald Trump.
Officially, The Washington Post has warned its readers these editions now circulating are not authentic.
The fake broadsheets use the date May 1, 2019, and feature “unpresidented” in the headline.
One story suggests Trump has fled to Crimea, leaving a confused “clipped duck” Pence in his place.
Authors of this effort, The Yes Men, claim their fake news is a first step “to help us reclaim our democracy.”
However, WaPo readers are reporting confusion on which WaPo is the real WaPo, and which is the fake.
They are asking this:
Would the democracy to be “reclaimed” be that supported by the real Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, and establishment media in general?
That is, American politics prior to Trump?
Many of these same readers say they are confused, due to all the continuing emphasis on collusion between Trump and Russia.
And on Trump as criminally disposed by emphasizing dialogue with Vladimir Putin.
Instead of snarling, waving the flag, and unwrapping the big muscle of his right-side bicep.
These types of anti-Trump stories are coming from the mainstream, not from fake broadsheets, and a group called The Yes Men.
Plus, these establishment accounts are not backed with “evidence”, but based on “assessments”--official language for “I guess so. Anything is possible these days.”
Dark Overbored reports WaPo management rushing forward to damage control, with management at The New York Times, MSNBC, and others looking on anxiously.
“No, these fake editions of the WaPo are not ours!” is being accompanied by: “We never said Trump is threatening our democracy so that we need to reclaim it!”
“No! He’s a threat to normal US imperialism and global dominance—that is our problem with him!”
And “If he did flee, he would probably go to Israel or Saudi Arabia! Much warmer—and more billionaires there!”
Dark Overbored reports The Yes Men are not dismayed by these responses.
In response to a call to clarify their position, they now say “reclaiming democracy” means “Going back to the way it was before Trump!”
