After E.U. criticism of Spanish inaction over disproportionate border delays, a proposal by Spain to fast track Spanish Nationals to and from Gibraltar using special lanes has been met with incredulity.
While Spain is entitled to stream its lanes for speedy access to and from Gibraltar, it is thought to be a ploy by right wing Prime Minister Mariana Rajoy to gather information about Spanish Gibraltar workers and to racially discriminate against other members of the European community.
A frustrated worker told our reporter, "The only benefit of this scheme would be to tobacco smugglers and the P.P. party who could then really compromise freedom of movement of people legally going about their business to and from Gibraltar. Two recent landmark decisions by the E.U. have endorsed the legality of the fishing controls facilitated by Gibraltar and slammed Spain's selective "Border Queue" punishment of Gibraltarian, International European and Spanish citizens.
