The 2014 Niekki Award for International Business Development has been awarded to Gibraltar. The prestigious award, the equivalent of a "Nobel Prize for Business" was yesterday presented to the booming U.K. territory.
The Japanese Fiscal Proliferation Consortium unanimously voted to award the prize of 1m. Euros to Gibraltar's Overseas Expansion and Land Reclammation Group funding (O.E.L.R.G.).
International Political and Financial leaders including representatives from Portugal, Spain and the independent territories of Ceuta and Melilla were yesterday pesented with runner up best of category consolation statuettes.
Gibraltar has maintained exponential growth while neighbouring South American Satellite, Spain's recent lobbying attempts to win the award have been marred by recessions and financial disintegration.
Despite repeated requests from its struggling neighbour for development guidelines, loans and business advice, Gibraltar has understandably shown a reluctance to share its secrets.
The new award, however comes with the proviso that the proliferation of financial acumen is mandatory within confidentiality guidelines. Advice must be made available to struggling countries and States at policy level. Angelo Merkel was yesterday said to be very pleased at the award.
