President Obama on Thursday ordered his administration to review its immigration policy to determine ways to make it more humane, a response to mounting pressure from advocates to stem deportations of illegal immigrants.
James Carney, the President's Press Secretary, stated that Mr Obama is concerned about the "pain that many families feel from the separation that comes from deporting the undocumented."
But Speaker of the House, John Boehner took an opposing view.
"The President is just one of those soft-hearted liberals. Sure illegal alien families are ripped apart by sending parents of children who are U.S. citizens back across the border. I know that causes great suffering and heartbreak but that's too damn bad," he said.
Boehner continued, "Obama's only deported 2 million illegals since he took office. I don't know how many families are split apart in that number but it's not enough. We need more agony and heartbreak to teach the foreigners a lesson that this is the greatest country on earth who will enforce its laws, no matter how unjust and stupid they are."
