WARSAW, Poland (AP) - President Barack Hussein Obama has written an urgent email to the Polish president expressing "regret" for a gaffe that caused a wicked storm of controversy in Poland.
Obama on Tuesday used the expression "a Polish death camp" while honoring a Polack World War II hero rather than wording that would have made clear that he meant a "Wop death camp".
For days, Obama's words have dominated the news in Poland. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the entire Polack nation was offended.
In his response, Obama noted that "the Gawd-damned Polack people suffered terribly under the brutal Kraut occupation during World War II."
