It was announced today that Stagecoach Grimsby and Cleethorpes are going Eco friendly with the purchase of 10 methane run vehicles, The buses are due in July and follows Stagecoach Lincoln's purchase of Bio Methane vehicles.
The Grimsby buses will run on farts emitted by it's passengers. All seats have a receptacle for collecting the farts which are stored in a tank on the roof and converted in to fuel.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach said that the average human being produces between 1 and 3 pints of gas every day and with the number of passengers we ferry around North East Lincolnshire every year the scheme should pay for itself in year 2.
The only problem is if one hits a low bridge and the tank ruptures, we could have an environmental problem, but the designers have said the outer skin would take it.
Stagecoach Hull are looking at the situation too and as their passengers produce more wind than their South Bank neighbours, their savings will be even greater.
