Finally, after much debate, Wife Throwing is to be included in the Olympic sports in time for 2012.
The event will take place in Hyde Park.
Wife throwing is a popular sport in the north of England and has set rules.
All contestants must have drunk at least 7 pints of Tetley's best ale; they must be wearing a flat cap, black waistcoat and clogs.
There are three categories of wife which can be thrown:
Semi-obese; from 20 stone (125Kg)
Obese; from 27 stone (170Kg)
Grossly Obese; anything over 40 stone (250kg)
Any method of throwing the women is acceptable but throwers must stay within the throwing ring (similar to the Hammer).
Distances up to 15 feet (5 metres) are expected from the Semi-obese category.
There are expected to be many entries from Yorkshire and Lancashire but, at present, three of the leading contenders are in hospital with back strains and we learn another contestant has a wife problem after she joined weight watchers.
