Newby, Isle of Wight, is most definitely on the map at last.
Residents of this small village gathered in the Community Centre last evening, bringing all maps they possessed which had The Isle of Wight showing.
As requested by the village council overseer, Mr. Mark Louten, they also brought red pens with them.
After the 'Minutes' and 'Treasurer's' report had been read and passed (seconded by Mrs. Millicent Molly Mayhew - 65 - carer for Paul the psychic octopus when he was in hiding on the Isle) business commenced.
All residents present were asked to spread out their maps and 'ink in' Newby. Each labelled 'Newby' in block capital letters, with their red pens.
So NEWBY is officially 'on the map' unless the next meeting's Minutes are not 'passed'. In which case, the residents will be back where they started.
Refreshments were served by members of the Newby Women's Institute. Porcupine sandwiches, battered squid (which most people avoided-thinking it might be PAUL) and milk (just past its 'sell by' date by 2 days, so it should be o.k.)
