The Yeast Based Product Smarmite, beloved or hated product that it is, has recently been using the General Election as part of its advertising. With the election finishing, Smarmite are looking for a new angle.
"For years, we've used the Love it or Hate it idea," said Smarmite CEO, S. M. Armite, whom the company is named after. "This has kind of backfired though, with a lot of people saying they hate it without ever trying it. My wife's like that."
With this in mind, Smarmite are turning to the legendary figure that is Derek Acorah.
"Acorah's the kind of image we want for our product," said Armite. "He's suave, sophisticated, will do anything for money and has no conscience. Plus, he's already smarmy."
The new ads will start running in the autumn, with the strap line: "Be Smarmy Like Acorah, eat Smarmite."
A random individual stopped in the street was shown the new campaign. "Oh I'd definitely try it," she said. "I like Derek Acorah, Smarmite AND being smarmy."
Another random sample had a different thought on the subject. "Can't stand the stuff. Never tried it mind."
