News from Tehran that the local council has ordered all schools to close during the Christmas and Easter periods. Local education chief Mohammad Al Capone said "It is important that children learn about all religious beliefs. The best way a child can learn is by taking time off school."
Teachers are furious about the decision as they feel this restricts their freedom. One head teacher said "This is still an Islamic country and we should teach Islam. I am respectful towards other faiths, but the official religion of this country is Islam."
Parents are also concerned that their children may become confused if other religions start to be given greater prominence in lessons. They have urged the Government to step in and shoot the council officials responsible for this policy. No official comment has been made yet.
