The condition of Gordon Brown's one working eye was "no cause for concern" a No.10 spokesperson said today.
"It's perfectly natural for a person in a leadership position to shed a few tears now and again. Margaret Thatcher did it, Tony Blair did it, so why when it's reported that Gordon Brown has tears in his eyes do people consider it newsworthy?"
In a "completely unrelated" story, the spokesperson announced an addition to the Brown household. 'Blinky' is an adult Golden Labrador which the Prime Minister dotes on. "He's taking Blinky everywhere he goes together with Blinky's favourite toy, a long white stick."
David Blunkett is 62.
