Gordon Brown decided to fight the public perception of him being an idiot. The prime minister went on holiday and left in charge very questionable individuals to run the country. The logic was simple - public must see that he is so much better than his other ministers and his popularity therefore must increase.
It certainly worked the first week with Harriet Harman running the country. Initiating extensive legislation against male species of the human race, she caused many to say "Even Gordon Brown is better than her".
It started well the second week also with Peter Mandelson running the country from a yacht in Greece. Then in an interview with the Guardian newspaper he said that he is a pussy. Many voters are not too liberal and didn't like gay stand-in for prime minister to admit he was a pussy. Mr Brown's relative popularity surged further.
The experiment continues with very few voters are saying now "Anyone would be better than Brown".
