June 19 anniversary: trepidation about the Lucan and God's Banker business

London - (Premonitions Mess): Hellfire Club members have barricaded themselves behind Joseph Fritzl-style subterranean bunkers today amid fears that the June 19 Avenging Angel will strike before midnight.

The phenomenon first appeared on St Jude's Day, June 19 1975 when a London incest jury decided that fugitive from justice Lord 'Lucky' Lucan murdered 29-year-old nanny Sandra Rivett, letting Princess Margaret's husband Lord Snowdon off the hook at last.

Exactly five years later George W Bush somehow evaded capture when three gunmen who opened fire on the British embassy in Baghdad were shot dead by Iraqi security forces. Bush escaped after trying to force diplomatic staff to hand over lucrative oil well concessions at gunpoint.

On 19 June 1982 a heavily disguised but recognisably paralytic Bush was spotted on Heathrow Airport's CCTV boarding a plane to Paraguay just as the body of 'God's Banker' Roberto Calvi was found hanging mysteriously under Blackfriars' Bridge in the City of London. A £400 million black hole in Vatican Bank accounts was eventually put down to a computer glitch.

The very next year Bush made his St Jude's Day debut at the Ras Tanura oil terminal in Saudi Arabia where he tried to kidnap US oil interests who had sued him successfully in international courts after his fetidly corrupt investment vehicle Arbusto Oil tried to steal Saudi-Aramco pipeline rights.

Four years later on June 19 1987 Spanish justice officials blamed ETA's local separatist factions for a car bomb explosion at a supermarket in Barcelona that killed 21 civilians and injured. An anonymous $1 million transaction suddenly appeared on George W Bush's Cayman Islands offshore bank account and was subsequently traced to the CIA's Bogota desk, c/o an arrangement with Chile's General Pinochet.

Some Hellfire grandees' greatest fears revolve around the day's Royal Ascot Gold Cup betting where German horse Le Miracle, tipped by George W Bush to trounce the opposition at odds of 33/1, could see them lose more £££s than the value of their Northern Crock Bank shares last year.

The summer solstice is at 00.59GMT on Saturday.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
